Is the 10 of Wands an Easter Card? Melinda’s Friday Message

If this your first time visiting my blog please take a moment to subscribe to my blog while you are here via email.

Welcome to another of my guide Melinda’s Friday messages about how to live life. Melinda and I work together to help people through the tarot readings I deliver. Melinda was a reader in her life. She has a great perspective drawn from both her last lifetime, being born in 1696, and her subsequent time as a spirit.

Tarot of Marseille - 10 of WandsToday, well the day this goes out, is Good Friday. I want to talk today about the 10 of Wands. This card is one of being stuck. It is in some ways related to the Hanged Man. I was told that this was the card that Christ experienced when he knew that his fate was sealed. Specifically the moment of understanding what was coming his way.

As I grew up with the cards they were inextricably mixed with Christian story, parable, and myth. People had a very strong sense of the stories in the Bible and telling them was an art. My mother was a masterful story teller. I recall her telling me what went through Christ’s mind as he contemplated his fate. Can you imagine knowing you would suffer greatly but also understanding the full implications for the World?

The 10 of Wands is that moment when you know you cannot escape the doom that is waiting on the horizon. It is the walk to the gallows. If you arrived at the 10 of Wands by betrayal those events have already past. There is no wiggle room left. No escape in sight. Zorro will not ride in to free you.

The cards are living things that relates the story of our lives. Put aside your thoughts about what they mean and ask yourself what stories do they tell. The loss of a loved one? A betrayal at work? The birth of your child? The love of your life?

As you tell the stories of your life you are telling the story of the cards. The more closely you relate the cards to your life the more deeply they will speak and the more clearly you will hear them.
Thank you for listening.
Melinda

What an interesting perspective on the 10 of Wands! For me, it’s about taking on too much, and then having to figure out what we can put down, and what we’re just going to have to deal with. Perhaps that fits for this allegory, too. Christ took on a lot, and decided it was a burden he could and would carry, no matter how heavy…

I think it is all about the burden we choose and how well we carry it. We can often put it down if we want. However, often it doesn’t even occur to people to put it down.
