As I have been working on the cards, and especially the Lovers card, I find myself thinking about the structure or architecture of the cards. With working on the cards there is often a movement or structure behind the image. In conceptualizing the Lovers card I realized there is a three part layering going on its symbolism. At the top we have spirit, in the middle we have the ego and at the bottom we have the unconscious. Simple. In looking at the other cards I found that the triple layering was there in the other cards too. This card just chose to reveal the pattern to me.

This drawing is one of the conceptual drawings I did in developing the Lovers.
