Welcome to another of my guide Melinda’s Friday messages about how to live life. If you’d like to know more about her and what she has to say you can find more in the first post in this series.

One thing that I see a lot is people who are working on themselves and not getting anywhere. In my day this idea of working on yourself was not very common. People had somewhat simpler needs. I need food. I need the crops to grow. I want a wife or husband. This notion of personal growth just was not what people, at least for the most part, came looking for.

Now I see all sorts of tools, techniques, and paths for personal growth being talked about. I cannot and will not tell you which is the right one for you. I will, however, tell you the questions that matter when it comes to deciding how to proceed and whom to accept help and guidance from.

1. Are you actually getting ahead?

It is the most important and sometimes the most challenging question to answer. Humans love moments of realization and the feeling that comes along with that experience. Realizations are great but they are also addictive. Looking for understanding can be a real sink hole of time, energy, and money. Many teachers and guides think they are helping people by helping them find these moments of realization – despite the fact that the persons life is not growing.

How do you measure success? If you are looking to improve your money – do you have more now? If you are looking for more peace – are you more tranquil? Whatever it is that you need in your life look hard and see if you are actually getting more of it.

This is true of all the aspects of readings too. If the reader makes predictions are they accurate? Did you benefit from them? Were they delivered in a way you understood them? Keep track. Nothing is perfect but you should expect a good return on your investment.

2. Are they successful?

Is this person free of drama. Stable and consistent. Are they professional? From what you know have they worked on their issues? Do they have the kind of life they want? It is not just about money but the quality of the person. I am not suggesting you choose a reader or guide because you want to be their best friend. That is a bad criteria for this choice. You should however see them as successful. Whatever you feel you are lacking you should see that they are already successful in that area of their life.

Ask yourself these questions before working with someone. If you are a reader ask yourself if your clients would answer yes to these questions about you. We all have work to do let us be honest and get on with it.

Thanks you for listening.
